Seaford Tomorrow originally began as the Seaford Enhancement Team in 2011 when a small group of interested citizens saw a need and a hope to bring revitalized energy and economic growth to the downtown area.  In the fall (seasons are not capitalized) of 2014, with renewed spirit and purpose, the organization morphed into Seaford Tomorrow. 

 

The heart of a community resides in its downtown.  Seaford needed some work.  Only a few small enclaves invited people to come visit downtown.  Empty buildings and dilapidated exteriors do not encourage business or visitors. Attractive curb side appeal is an important invitation to come inside.

 

As a compliment to the Downtown Development District award grant, the Facade Grant Program was put in place with the goal of creating a more aesthetically pleasing and inviting showcase to attract customers and stimulate further economic growth.  On August 1, 2016, the Façade Grant Application opened; since then, nine downtown businesses have applied to improve their facades with new color, awnings, and signage to increase their customer base and give a new fresh look to the area. To date, Fantasy Beauty Salon, the Greater Seaford Chamber of Commerce, Nanticoke Health Services, (what was formerly the Miller Furniture Building), Gallery 107, Weathered Treasures, the Seaford Executive Building, and Doña Maria's Pupuseria have all seen significant improvements to their buildings and therefore increasing the overall attraction of the downtown area and inviting more people to stop, linger, eat, and shop.  “We are so happy with our improvements at the gallery and so thankful for the Seaford Tomorrow Facade Committee for the opportunity to make it all happen!” exclaimed Tammy Kearney of Gallery 107. Kearney further added, “We would like to acknowledge Rick Ewing and R.L. Ewing and Son Contractors for their painting of the gallery and Ben Phillips and Phillips Signs for their work on our new signage and front awning.” The Procino-Wells and Woodland project is in progress, and Seaford Executive Building is awaiting approval. 

 

Seaford Tomorrow will re-open the Façade Grant Program on January 1, 2018; applications will be received until February 15, 2018, and grants will be awarded by March 1st. To learn more, log onto the website at www.seafordtomorrow.org

 

With time and success, further progress should continue to expanded areas of downtown.  Revitalization can already be seen with the construction of the Residences at Riverplace, the overwhelming participation in events like Live for Chocolate, First Saturday in Seaford, and improved facades in businesses and venues.
